Should cats be allowed to roam free outdoors?

  1. I don’t think you can keep a cat in that is used to going out without causing distress.

This seems to be contentious topic in gardening circles. I limit my cats’ access to outside, but I do let them out – especially with me in the garden. They love lollygagging about while I putz away.

I don’t think I would have a pet if I couldn’t offer it a mentally healthy environment, including fresh air and sunshine. That’s why I would never have an “exotic” or undomesticated pet – just because they can’t complain doesn’t mean they are happy.
